Not all activities are for the snowbirds. Here is one place that caters to the younger crowd or those that still think they are young. Numerous beach activities with a very welcome beach atmosphere make Caddy`s one of the favorites for younger locals and tourists. Also the food while made for the younger crowd, is also quite passable.

The Story behind the picture
Mother always told me "Watch the kids". Now I really do know why! This little excursion was pleasurable to the eyes and a great lesson in what our youngsters enjoy. Much more active than ourselves and all with the thoughts of enjoying themselves to the fullest.
John`s Comments
Just had to go as it is well advertised to the local crowd. Was not disappointed as
the food was adequate, liquor quite reasonable and the views were always pleasing to
the eye.
John`s Recollections
Location is quite the hot spot for the beach party goers, and many
of the visitors are local. Tourists are more in the younger variety, however there
are those that visit of all ages, and the food is reasonable.
Pass a Grille is an older area in the St Petes region on a point surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and the Intercoastal Waterway. Many of the homes are original and the towns character is one that portrays how life was during the early growth in population. Amazingly, new building must retain a strict building code to retain the past so few resorts and highrises are available.

The Story behind the picture
The drive around historic Pass A Grille gives you an overview of some of the areas original buildings and its closeness to the Gulf of Mexico and the Intercoastal waterways. Drive covers exterior roads in the town of Pass A Grille. Would estimate that total milage to be around 5 miles.
John`s Comments
Not much entertainment here other than the beach. Shopping is minimal as well as
eating establishments except for several near the only traffic light in town.
John`s Recollections
Pass-A-Grille is located on the Gulf Coast on a small peninsula just south of Saint
Petersburg Beach. Removed from the prime tourist areas it has retained much of it`s
history and the majority of visitors are local to the area.
A bar like no others. Cement floors, dogs, cats, wooden beams and thousands of artifacts. It could take weeks to view everything but the conversations with visitors and locals will help to pass the time. If you are ever in the area, drop in, just to say hello, and to be able to tell others when
you return home of a place like no other. Something to consider would be that they have live New Orleans Jazz several days on the weekend.

The Story behind the picture
The first time you walk in here, you look around are quite sure it will be the last time also. The next time and with each succeeding next times you begin to say to yourself, this is comfortable for me, people are always friendly and conversations with others come from all walks of life. Definitely the appearance is something to talk about, but not really negative.
John`s Comments
Truly a place to visit, as the interior is not the usual but rather a history of the man
that created it, together with items from the many, many visitors. Could also be known as
Sloppy John`s or the "Wurst place on the beach".
John`s Recollections
One must have an inquisitive mind and be able to accept that something quite different
is not always not enjoyable. Many nights were spent here, with others, surroundings, and
music that was different from my normal surroundings. Still, however, memories of great times
continue to play out in my mind.
A most excellent winter vacation spot along Indian Shores Beach. Sunsets were just fabulous and the daily beach walks were always different as the wave action always provided a new texture. Quite possible to travel 4-5 miles in either direction on the beach without having a barricade or opening to the intercoastal waterway. In this particular area there is also a wild life refuge for the many pelicans and water birds.

The Story behind the picture
Beaches along Florida`s Gulf of Mexico coastline are rather good with white sand and gentle waves.
John`s Comments
Beach at Indian Shores area has a much reduced population as area is mostly condominiums
or private homes with few business venues. Generally space is quite available for family
gatherings at a much quieter pace.
John`s Recollections
Life is a beach with white sand and gentle waves. Here that is true with only one exception
for rough waters during our winter stay. Even the sandy shores changed daily with the wave
action, and that made the daily walk all the more interesting. The Gulf waters at many times
also were full of water life including porpoises, rays and many types of fish and water birds.

The Story behind the picture
It is not just that the picture is nice, but rather it reminds me of great times. Seeing dozens of sunsets with each one being different than the last one, walking the beach almost daily for months. Even today, we return to the area each winter, to view our place with the sunsets.
John`s Comments
There are very few places that one can go to a beach, and then watch a sunset that is quite different than the one the night before. Absolutely marvelous.
John`s Recollections
Life is a beach with white sand and gentle waves. Yes this is great, however the sunsets bring one picture perfect moments that most will enjoy. Especially when they
do not appear the same as the nights before. Over a six month period, they continued to change shapes, colors and even brightness.
Much to do and see. From the wharf to the many parks along the waterfront, to the restaurants, museums and shopping close by it provides most with a good experience. We have spent several days here, relaxing on a small beach and walking the trails on the waterfront parks. The wharf is an experience itself, as it contains many tourism sites with a restaurant on the top that one can overlook Tampa Bay.

Well, not really! The picture is outdated and the pier as shown is not there anymore. There are also several additional high-rises. It still is however, a great place to visit
John`s Update.
Pier or Inverted pyramid is now in the process of being torn down and replaced in the near future.
John`s Recollections
Not on the Beach (actually on Tampa Bay), however it is just a great place to go. Many activities,
and a downtown area that most cities could be proud of. Visitors to the area can enjoy dining as well as the great surrounding scenery where
water views from the excellent park system are above average.
Museums and Art/Entertainment venues are top notch.
A tourist haven along the Gulf coast. Great dockside facilities include many restaurants, shopping, gambling cruise departures and an intercoastal linkage to the Gulf of Mexico. Fortunately as a snowbird we have been able to visit many times and our experiences have always been positive. For those that wish to sunbathe or walk the beach, then that is great also.

The Story behind the picture
Spend most of one day watching the building of this sand castle. Impressed by the efforts of what is entailed to create it, and disappointed that several days later it was no longer there.
John`s Comments
A must visit for a visitor. Great beach, intercoastal waterway entrance to the Gulf of Mexico, and plenty of stores, restaurants and entertainment venues.
John`s Recollections
Can`t count the number of times that we have visited Johns Pass. Each time is as good as the last time, and the boardwalk along the channel to the Gulf of Mexico, with the
many restaurants, together with the smaller type shopping venues
provide reasons to return. If you need a break from the shopping & restaurants, you just go across the street to beaches on the Gulf of Mexico.
Just a fabulous park to get away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Excellent beach and facilities together with an area for camping overnight. Well used by locals and regarded as one of the best beaches in Florida. Plan on visiting Fort Desota to see an awesome display of cannon power in earlier times. Our visits here are usually a full day trip.

Left the beach crowd and searched for a barbecue pit. Picture was from that location and we were not disappointed. Peaceful and quiet time with
the many birds in the area.

Pack up your beach bag, put on your swimming gear, and visit this favorite beach along the gulf coast.
Activities in the historic park include camping, kayaking, fishing, barbequeing, and of course swimming
& walking along many of the beaches
John`s Recollections
A terrific park that is visited by many. Great for a day trip, as one can visit the fort, then partake
in beach activies. Places to get away by yourself for barbeques and there is even an area for camping overnight.
