Drive to the Pacific coast, although a bit damp that morning, passes thru rolling hills and pine trees. The Astoria bridge links the states of Washington and Oregon at the point where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean.

Mount St Helens - Washington

Trees downed like matchsticks. Unless you see it for yourself it is very hard to understand the power of an eruption. The drive to the mountain passes many locations where the river overflowed, took out the bridges and destroyed the vegetation.

Truly one of our last frontiers in the contiguous States. Scenery in the park itself is quite evident, however the drive around the peninsula shows one the wildness and beauty that still remains for everyone to experience.
