New River Gorge - West Virginia

Just a great place to stop and stretch your legs. Great river scenery can be seen with a short walk down the cascading stairway to a lower level. I have stopped here several times, mostly just to have a short rest during a long drive, but also to view some fantastic scenery. The suspension bridge is one of the longest in the world and the river rapids seem to be always flowing to a point where you wish you were a participant in white water rafting.

The Story behind the picture
There are times when getting the best location to take a video clip or a picture one must do a little bit of work. Here they have built stairs ( some 100+ ) to follow an extreme slope and therefore allow visitors an exceptional view of the suspension bridge. Really, your heart will pump at a higher rate!

John`s Comments
A rugged, white water river, flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. I find this to be the right spot and time to take a break from the drive down to Florida. Scenery is terrific and the half hour to an hour stop is just about the right time to rest the eyes and continue the journey. When there, and if you have the time, take the stairs down to a lower level where one can get a good view of the river, bridge all at the same time.

John`s Recollections
Maybe it is just the right time for a stop, or whatever, but here is one place that continues as a pit stop for myself. Viewing the displays and then walking down the stairs (over a hundred of them) to see the bridge and the river below is enough time to get off the road, prior to continuing on.
