Four Corners - New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona

Memorial dedicated to the only meeting point for four states. Surrounding booths are staffed by tribes displaying and selling native handicrafts of all four States. The drive thru New Mexico to reach the Four Corners memorial passes by many scenes used in the making of western movies, including Shiprock Pinnacle. In a non-populated area so give yourself time to reach a final destination prior to nightfall.

The Story behind the picture
All four corners were represented by native tribes who sold goods celebrating their historical past.

John`s Comments

Found it quite interesting to view each quadrant specifically and note the different rock formations of each state. There is a noticable
difference that he had encountered during this mid west trip that spanned all four states. Colorado had the Rocky Mountains, Utah the
Sandstone formations where water had eroded and created wondrous formations, Arizona where erosion had created mountain Pinnacles
and the Grand Canyon and finally New Mexico with great sand dunes and butte formations.

John`s Recollections

Being able to straddle the four corners and view the surrounding sites is quite a feat. What did impress me the most though, was how in
each of the four corners the various Indian tribes had set up their different products for sale. The surrounding area provides many of the
background pictures used in movie scenes of the wild west frontier.

Salt Lake City - Utah

Went thru the tour and was quite impressed by buildings, grounds and the general feeling of commitment. This is from someone who is not overly religious so apparently they do have something going for them.

Zion National Park - Utah

Another Utah National Park that provides such scenic qualities to us all. The canyon walls close in as one goes further into the park, and if you take the riverwalk like us it literally is within 100`s of feet from each other. Quite exhilirating and worth the effort, but watch the footing as you really walking in a river as you go deeper and deeper into the gorge.

Bryce Canyon National Park - Utah

Definitely a favorite of mine. These hoodoos with their color formations are very impressive, and the drive thru the park ( 10-12 miles ) allows for many stops for viewing. Took one of various walks to the bottom and the feeling of being so close is very special. Highly recommend but all should be aware of the effort expended as it is rather strenuous.

Natural Bridges National Monument - Utah

Walked down to one ( one of three ) of the natural bridges. It was quite impressive especially when standing beneath. The size of the bridge seemed to be that of a football field at least and gives one a feeling of being under a dome.

Drive highlights - Natural Bridges, Utah to Lake Powell, Arizona

Another scenic drive is Southern Utah, down a road carved into the face cliffs ( 1000 foot drop ) and then past the Navajo mountains or better known as Monument Valley. For a visitor this area appears very scenic, but population is quite sparse and the lack of water would make living conditions quite harsh.

Drive highlights - border of Colorado to Moab, Utah

What a scenic drive alongside the Colorado River. Here was one great reason to get off the freeway and visit nature up close. Unfortunately for most of us, where and when do to so, is not readily apparent.

Canyonlands National Park - Utah

A later arrival allowed for some great sunset pictures. The northern section where we were able to visit has vegetaion that is quite different, and the carving into the canyons by the river really does show how nature evolves with time.

Arches National Park - Utah

This National Park is not large in size, however the rock formations are quite different. If visiting plan on taking some of the short walks to visit the Arches up close.
